The Soldier's Field Guide

The Five P's

“Let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly.”

Doctrine and Covenants 121:45

Pause with Prayer. Anchor your Perspective. Stand on Principle. Set the Priority. Deliver the Performance.

Field Virtue 01

Prayer

Seek guidance.

What it means
Prayer is talking with Heavenly Father. We thank Him, ask for help, and take time to listen.
How a soldier lives it
A soldier prays before he acts. He asks for courage and help choosing what is right. Then he moves forward with faith.

Field Virtue 02

Perspective

See things the way Heavenly Father sees them.

What it means
Perspective means trying to see everything the way Heavenly Father sees it.
How a soldier lives it
A soldier remembers that everyone is a child of God. He listens, looks for who needs help, and tries to make the whole team stronger.

Field Virtue 03

Principle

Stand on what is right.

What it means
A principle is a foundational truth that helps us know what is right.
How a soldier lives it
A soldier follows the rules and keeps his word, even when no one is watching. People know they can trust him.

Field Virtue 04

Priority

Put first things first.

What it means
Priority is putting the most important things first. A soldier should never get distracted by things of less importance.
How a soldier lives it
A soldier puts safety, his duty, and his team before comfort or praise. He finishes the most important job first.

Field Virtue 05

Performance

Take action with a firm foundation.

What it means
Performance is the action a soldier takes. He must be aware of how well he does it.
How a soldier lives it
A soldier pays attention, does his best, finishes the job, and learns from mistakes. That helps him do better next time.
